Harris Cooper, a researcher on homework from Duke University, claims that too much homework causes stress. In this I paper will talk about the damaging effects homework has on a child, how homework causes students to dropout of school, and some ideas for an alternative to homework.
Children go to school for seven hours a day, when teachers make them do homework it causes them to get stressed. Furthermore if children understand what they learned at school why do they need to repeat it at home? If children are struggling on a certain subject, teachers should be able to help them directly, not with homework because giving them homework on something they don't know anything about is ...view middle of the document...
How can anyone get engaged in a novel if he or she spends no more than 15 minutes a day reading? At that pace, it seems like this class will be
reading the same novel all year, if they manage to finish it at all.”

Students will have more time to read if there is no homework. Even better they can read any book they want and not the choice of the teacher, children will also enjoy reading more because they won't have to summarize every chapter. Children should be able to read for as long as they like and not at the command of the teacher.
Many children hate homework simply because it is boring, these children are correct, homework is unnecessary because it makes children do work that they don’t need to do because they already did it in school. When children get homework on something they don't know about they panic and get stressed out because if they don't do their homework they will be punished by their teacher of course when children do do their homework they get nothing. Children also start to associate learning with school and school with homework which makes children like me hate school and learning in general.
Not only does homework harm...
