I believe I have been truly blessed to have the opportunity to grow up in Smallville, USA, in a home where my parents have instilled in me the principle that there is a service requirement beyond our immediate household. Realizing what has been provided for me by my parents, my church and my community, I want to use my college degree to serve my community.
Not only have my parents modeled before me that we are to volunteer our time and services as citizens to make our community a better place to live, but they have always encouraged me to become involved in church and community activities. Therefore, church and community service, which I feel are inseparable for a thriving community where people desire to live and raise families, have become a way of life for me.
I have been taught that volunteer efforts play a vital role in a strong community. With my accounting/computer science degree, I will be equipped to volunteer with annual income tax preparation for my community. Having served on the Mayor's Youth Council for two years, I know that I will have many opportunities to assist my city's government offices in providing financial/computer advice, such as helping with budgets for special events sponsored by the city or teaching computer classes to community citizens. Because I am gifted with organization and strategic planning skills, my college education will further prepare me to be an excellent candidate for serving in our city government as an alderwoman.
