Why Music Is Important To Me

794 words - 4 pages

My whole life has been one of music. I remember long car rides listening to Tom Petty with my dad, singing Madonna with my mother as we do chores. I can’t imagine life without a beat, without some sort of rhythm to help pass the time. Even my name comes from music, as I was named after the song Chloe Dancer by Mother Love Bone. We’ve had losses and triumphs and eight in the morning band camps. It hasn’t always been easy, but we’ve made it though together, a surrogate family forged through music.

He was so excited when I stated clarinet, and even more so when I started bass. He was my biggest fan, listening intently as the beginning squeaks turned into music, never missing a single performance. When I made District Band, he hugged me and said that I was the musician he always wanted to be. I want to keep this thought alive and make my dad proud. It’s important to me to do the things my dad couldn’t, because it...
