Why Should I Care? Essay

818 words - 4 pages

‘’Why should I care?’’ contrary to what people would have you believe is a fair question, and often the correct answer is you shouldn’t. This is the age of the 24 hour news cycle, where any fool with a word processor and an internet connection (ahem) can and will write a blog on any niche subject from the odd to the downright bizarre. One of the things that bothers me about this issue is it’s as if the ISP’s are trying to bore everyone into submission. This I believe is a conscious effort to encourage apathy about the subject. As efforts to ‘’reform’’ net neutrality have been defeated a couple of times but have come back again like a many headed hydra, or stubborn weed on a garden path. At least that was until the FCC in America decided to have reform on the issue. Given recent attacks on the neutrality reform could be a good thing. Sadly the reforms offered by the FCC would have create a two tiered internet with companies paying ISPs for an upgrade the term ‘’fast lane’’ was being tossed around quite a bit, that was until earlier today which saw a lot of back peddling after significant push back from some of the largest internet and tech companies including google, amazon, and Netflix.
