Illegal immigration is a topic that conflicts many American Citizens here in the United
States. Many of the undocumented immigrants residing here in the U.S.A. have lived as
second class citizens and in the shadows of American society. Having two undocumented
parents it is easy to say that most undocumented immigrants live uncertain of their future.
Constantly hoping, everyday that they will not run into an ICE truck, and be deported back to
their home country in that instant, losing everything they worked so hard for in the years they
had been living in this country, or being separated from their families at any time just because
they did not stay home, or they needed to go to work to earn money to be able to support their
family. Many of these immigrants have been living in the United States for a handful of years,
countless of them also have U.S. born children and for that reason they consider themselves a
part of this nation. The down side, because of their legal status, these immigrants are constantly
being excluded from many social and political participation, making them targets of
discrimination to those people who want them out. These individuals often blame the illegal
aliens for most of the problems the country has, and do not accept them as a part of our
country. Others are often targeting them verbally, this is a quote from an article, “We must have
strong borders and not let illegal immigrants enter the United States. Public reports routinely
state great amounts of crime are being committed by illegal immigrants” (Ortiz). Even with all the
discrimination they receive there are countless reasons as to why they cannot leave the country,
reasons like family, work, a good life, among other things. That being said, immigrants cannot
continue living in this country without their rights, being excluded from american society, and
unable to enjoy normal lives. The undocumented immigrant issue it that the the circumstances
now cannot stay the same, a good effective immigration
reform is the best solution to this existing situation. However, many opponents make it
impossible for any change.
There are three main conclusions opponents often make when discussing illegal
immigration topics: all immigrants enter the U.S. illegally, most immigrants are mexican, and all
undocumented aliens are criminals. Nonetheless, there are educated and balanced debates
about this stereotyped issue. According to Robins, not all immigrants enter the country illegally,
“45 percent of illegal immigrants came here on a legal visa, and then overstayed that visa”
(Robins). Therefore, not all undocumented immigrants came into the country without a check up
or illegally and that statistic proves it. Not all undocumented immigrants come from the country
of Mexico as thought, “ India was the leading country of origin for recent immigrants, with
179,800 arriving, followed by 143,200 from China, 139,400 from Mexico, 47,500 from the...
