# Will The Length Of Wire Affect The Resistance?

833 words - 3 pages

PHYSICS PRACTICAL ASSESSMENTPLANA variable is something that can be changed or measured. The following is a list of variables that can be changed in the experiment that I will be doing:·Changing the length of the wire·Increasing the cross-section of the wire·Changing the material used·Changing the temperature·Changing the resistance of the wire·Changing the voltage going across the wire·Changing the current going across the wireFor my experiment I will proceed to test out whether the length of the wire will affect the average resistance. Before I can carry out my real experiment, I will need to do a preliminary experiment that will tell me how much voltage I will need for the varying lengths of wire. I will use the wire called WG28 Constantan wire.FAIR TESTINGTo make the experiment a fair test, I will need to keep all the equipment the same, make sure I am as accurate as I can when measuring the varying length of wire and make sure I record all the results more than once in order to get an average and accurate reading of the results.CIRCUIT DIAGRAMSAFETY ASPECTSTo assure that my experiment is going to be 100% safe, I will make sure that I don't use a voltage that is too high which will make the wire get too hot and burn out.I will also make sure that all the equipment is on a flat surface so that it can't fall and damage anyone or anything. We will use a low voltage supply.CALCULATIONTo calculate the resistance of the wire we will have to use Ohms Law which is a triangle of voltage divided by current which will give me the totaled resistance.PREDICTIONI predict that the longer the length of wire that we have; the higher the resistance will be.I think this because there will be more wire in the circuit which will restrict the current which flows through the circuit therefore creating a higher resistance.PRELIMINARY EXPERIMENTRESULTSI predict that the longer the length of wire that we have; the higher the resistance will be.I think this because there will be more wire in the circuit which will restrict the current which flows through the circuit therefore creating a higher resistance.RESULTSI made the results as accurate as I could by taking 5 sets of readings and repeating the experiment twice to draw out an average resistance of the results that I recorded.CONCLUSIONFrom the results that I have...

### The Resistance Of A Wire Essay

760 words - 3 pages to the potential difference (voltage).PredictionsThe longer the wire, the higher the resistance. This is because the longer the wire, the more times the free electrons will collide with other free electrons, the particles making up the metal, and any impurities in the metal. Therefore, more energy is going to be lost in these collisions (as heat).Furthermore, doubling the length of the wire will result in double the resistance. This is because by

### Length affects the resistance Essay

3610 words - 14 pages the range of temperature needed without the correct apparatus.2) Length of wire The larger the length of the wire, the larger the resistance. This is because there are more atoms from the metal so there is more chance that the electrons would collide with one of the atoms therefore there is more resistance. The length of wire will be variable throughout the investigation. Electrons have a longer distance to travel when the wire is longer, so

1037 words - 4 pages lose some of there energy when they collide.E.g. I will have to keep the voltage low to minimise resistance. This is due to kinetic theory, the more voltage, the hotter the wire, the faster moving particles therefore the more energy lost through collisionsResults:Conclusion:The way I got my results were fair, I controlled temperature, voltage, length of wire, and the resistance in the circuit. I came to a conclusion that the decrease in current is

### Factors that Affect the Resistance of Resistance Putty

2426 words - 10 pages Factors that Affect the Resistance of Resistance Putty This investigation is designed to look into the resistance of different materials, in this case, resistance putty in the form of wires, and their conducting capability in different shapes. We must bear in mind though that different thickness and length of the putty used to make up the wire itself will affect the electric conduction capability. Therefore, the factors are; 
