The overuse of Facebook among today’s society has allocated a new kind of virtual existence to people of all ages. Increasing research on social media's effects on human interaction has revealed the development of antisocial behavior, narcissism and a slew of other character flaws and negative by-products. Facebook is one of the most popular social media sites and believed to be a cause of venue for social media addiction. Facebook implants the seed of an obsessive- compulsive behavior that leads to over thinking every status update and how many people liked it. The great thing about Facebook is that you can always come back to exactly where you left off when you deactivated it. There’s good and bad in everything. If we use Facebook for the good (networking, motivating, staying in contact with friends and family) of instead of the bad, (lurking, over posting, obsessing over likes and comments) then Facebook would beneficial to all of its users. Together we can beat the addiction of Facebook!

In today’s society, social media has become the new norm of communication. Many people have found themselves, friends and family to become heavily addicted to it. Take myself for example. I just spent the last few hours deleting old Facebook posts and pictures from my own wall. I find myself spending more time lurking on my own page than on anyone else’s. Some would think I have an obsession with myself, which is also known as narcissism. I even bet doctors would diagnose my Facebook habits as a mental illness. Lucky for them, I was already diagnosed with a mental illness when I was a child. Let’s be honest here. We are all in some way, shape or form obsessed with how we appear to the rest of this world. I mean you’re life is only as exciting as you portray it to be on Facebook, right?
Facebook is one of the most popular social media sites and believed to be a cause of venue for social media addiction. Many have become too engrossed with their Facebook account that they are believed to show symptoms of Facebook addiction. As of today, there are 900 million active users on Facebook. The thing that doesn’t make sense to me about Facebook is how I have hundreds of friends on Facebook and less than a handful of true friends in real life. Maybe it’s because I find myself to be guilty of being that annoying over poster who believes they aren’t getting as many likes as they should on a photo or status update because, well I am an over poster.
