ZinkAnnika Tegler SMIP12Zink är ett av våra viktigaste grundämnen och förkortas zn i det periodiska systemet. Atomnumret för zink är 30 och atommassan är 65 units. Zink förekommer oftast i fast form. Zink klassas som metall, men i kroppen blir zink till ett livsviktigt mineral. Zink bidrar bland annat till att stärka immunförsvaret, men ingår också i flertalet enzymsystem. Zinks medverkan i olika enzymsystem gör att det ingår i kroppens DNA-syntes.Det rekommenderade dagliga intaget av zink är olika, men i huvudsak rekommenderas ett intag på 7 mg för kvinnor, 9 mg för män och gravida och 11 mg för den ammande. För att få i dig det rekommenderade dagliga intaget av zink bör du äta en bred och varierad kost, men framförallt återfinns zink i animaliska produkter och mejeriprodukter. Är du således vegan kan zinkbrist uppstå, men som tur är finns zink även i fullkornsmjölsbönor och för den med bönfobi kan zink intas i tablettform. Zinkbrist kan leda till stora problem i kroppen, bland annat hudbesvär såsom långsam sårläkning, eksem och acne, mentala tillstånd såsom apati och depression, cirkulations- och blodcirkulationssjukdomar, matsmältningsbesvär, hormonella besvär som orsakar missbildning av foster, sterilitet samt menstruationsstörningar, ja listan kan göras lång. Ett för högt intag av zink ger även det biverkningar, inte lika många men likväl problematiska sådana, överdosering av zink ger följder i form av buksmärtor, diarréer och kräkningar, men det hämmar även kroppens upptag av andra mineraler, t.ex. koppar och järn. Ett högt zinkintag påverkar även immunförsvaret, detta är något som flera stora företag försöker göra ekonomiska vinster på genom att lansera zinktabletter som ett effektivt botemedel mot förkylningar. Huruvida ett ökat zinkintag påskyndar tillfrisknandet råder det tvister om, men de flesta forskare är överens om att det mest handlar om placebo.Zink är en populär metall, det är den fjärde mest använda efter järn, aluminium och koppar. Ett av användningsområdena för zink är mässing, vilket är en legering av zink och koppar. Mässing kallades förut för fattigmansguld eftersom dess yta med sin gulbruna färg påminner om guld.
